Google Hangouts

Google Hangouts is a communication tool that allows district personnel to video conference and to chat.

In order to use Google Hangouts, all participants must be logged into their district Google email account. One person initiates the Google Hangout session. All other participants will receive an invitation from the initiator of the Google Hangouts session.


Starting a Google Hangout Session:

  1. Log into your district email account using the Chrome browser on your computer.

  3. You will need to scroll down the Google Apps window to find the Google Hangouts Application. You may need to select “More” in order to show additional applications in the window.
  4. Select the Google Hangouts App M8DVmspbnBrIdDpP_1CG7i_cGB8D113-JHo7osm9ddXklONaUBgVizPyzPo9AphBHOJypfI2eZACywXMCTe4D3jVLjZKaBEC_BlA-0K3pNem8jLGD5-sHXyLQWZLNZ3XOTXzJ9C4.png
  5. If this is the first time Google Hangouts has been opened, you will be shown a quick tutorial.

  8. Begin typing the name of the individual you wish to invite. The person’s name will appear below. Click on the name to add them to your group. You may add multiple people to your group.
  9. Click the “Enter” key on your keyboard when you are done adding people to your group.
  10. Your group communication dialog box will then appear. This dialog will allow you to chat to all members of your group

Joining A Google Hangouts Session

  1. Log into your district email account using the Chrome browser on your computer.
  2. A communication dialog should appear if an invitation to join a Google Hangout has been sent to you. Invitations are also listed on the bottom left hand side of the GMail window.
  3. You can use the communication dialog to chat with members of the group.

  5. If someone initiates a Video call, participants will be prompted to accept or to decline the call.
  6. If the call is accepted, the Video call window will open.
